Clock Tower Residences is a 285,000-square-foot multifamily housing project designed by Cobalt Office, currently under construction in Houston’s Heights neighborhood. Sited adjacent to the historic Heights Clock Tower—a former textile mill from 1894 listed on the National Register of Historic Places—the project serves as a contemporary complement to this important landmark that today houses a mix of restaurants and office space, adding residences to form a more complete urban ensemble.
The development comprises 218 residential apartments embracing a pair of distinctive communal courtyards. The first is intimate and shaded, its north-facing orientation creating a cool, protected enclave that serves as an outdoor extension to the fitness and co-working spaces—ideal for yoga, small group activities, or quiet contemplation. The second is sun-drenched and expansive, centered around a pool and connected to the communal kitchen—designed for larger community gatherings while framing views of the neighboring Clock Tower that sweep from Downtown to Uptown. These two outdoor spaces are linked by a carefully curated sequence indoors—fitness and spa, co-working areas, a media room, a communal living room and kitchen—all featuring meticulously crafted interiors.
At the building’s quiet eastern edge, four apartments extend down to street level, offering lofted live-work units with direct sidewalk access and a pedestrian-scaled presence. On the opposite end, near the commercial corridor of Shepherd Drive, the main entry and leasing office anchor the building alongside a small café and cocktail bar all tucked among a composition of staggered, oversized masonry volumes.
The architectural language layers a masonry frame over a more delicate vocabulary of blush-toned vertical cladding. This dual expression organizes both space and material, articulating a refined palette of buff masonry detailing that speaks to the neighborhood’s industrial heritage.
Created with Radom Capital (developer), Farouki Farouiki (interiors), Cultivate Land (landscape), United Structural (structure), DBR (mep), Kimley-Horn (civil), and OKDraw (visualizations)
