The Ella is a 180-unit mixed-use affordable housing development in the Shady Acres neighborhood of Houston. Along commercial street edges, the ground floor is visually open with restaurant, co-working and community meeting space. Above, a jointed linear massing of residential units traces the site boundary, alternating between masonry siding with deep shady terraces and a rich textured pattern of siding and Juliette balconies. The project successfully secured TDHCA 9% funding as well as a city block grant.
